The holidays are known for many things. Spending time with family, giving and receiving presents or just having time off of class. Something that may be as important as those previous things are the food and drink associated with the holidays.
For every holiday or season, there seems to be a food or drink that is associated with it. For example, St.Patrick’s day has the Shamrock Shake from McDonald’s, autumn has pumpkin-spiced everything and for Easter there are Peeps.
There are many food and drinks associated with Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sprite added to this by introducing Sprite Cranberry in the 2013 holiday season.
Sprite Cranberry is a lemon-lime and cranberry soda. It was regarded with high praise by many people during its tenure. Many people remember it for the animated commercial that aired during November and December for the drink that includes LeBron James.
A famous line and shot from this commercial have been the subject of many internet memes. This shot includes the animated basketball superstar opening the door of the house and asking the question “Want a Sprite Cranberry?” Many people would answer yes to this question if LeBron James were to ask them in real life. There is one problem to this however, they discontinued it!
Many people, including myself, have been waiting for this time of year to be reunited with our nectar from the gods. Sprite has let us down, and they don’t deserve to be forgiven.
Not all hope is lost, however! They announced a new beverage to take place of Sprite Cranberry. This time, it is called Winter Spiced Cranberry Sprite. It’s probably the same thing with a different name, right? It can’t be something different and possibly worse, right? But let me tell you, folks, this thing sucks.
Out of morbid curiosity and because I enjoyed the original drink, I decided that I should give the new version a shot. Good thing this disappointment only costs about $2 for a bottle. Sip by sip, it was getting worse and worse.
To quote a famous YouTube food reviewer “The Report of The Week”, also known as “Review Brah”, “My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.”
Where Sprite Cranberry had a nice taste of cranberry added with normal Sprite and gave it a more refreshing flavor, Winter Spice Cranberry Sprite adds an unnecessary cinnamon taste. This leaves a terrible aftertaste, and it just doesn’t fit well with the rest of the flavors. The cranberry flavor is also lost, and it seems watered down compared to Sprite Cranberry.
Winter Spiced Cranberry Sprite leaves a lot to be desired to say the least. Hopefully, Sprite learns from their mistakes and brings back the original and more popular of the two drinks.
