Fans remember Bryant

On Sunday, January 26, 2020, the world received the tragic news of a helicopter crash that was flying Kobe Bryant as well as his daughter and several others. TMZ was the first to report the crash in California in the early morning and knew about the crash before Bryant’s family.
The helicopter was traveling from an away basketball tournament and appeared to be flying too low. Reports are saying that California had some fog and the flying conditions were not great. The breaking news made headlines nationwide and sent social media into a spiral. If one was to even check social media whatsoever, they would see tribute videos and pictures from just about any sports enthusiast. This man was a legend and to lose his daughter as well is just tragic. The sports community made sure to show their love for the Bryant family.
Kobe Bryant had a massive impact on the basketball community on and off the court. The way this legend played the game was absolute art. He was featured on a show called, “Detail, by Kobe Bryant,” where he would break down certain players and emphasize what they were doing, thinking, and how they could improve their play as well. The mind this guy had for the game was truly incredible and it’s obvious he was one of the greatest players of all time.
In times like these, people seem to remember all the great times had with people that have passed. Things like dropping 81 points in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors. Things like winning the NBA Final’s three years in a row with Shaq. These are all things that have some sort of importance to his impact on the sports community. The man was well respected across all sports platforms and held himself to the highest standard. When the world and community gave up on him, he proved himself to be better. He spent his entire career with one team. That’s something you can’t find in a player anymore.
But most importantly fans lost part of their future. They lost not one but two young female athletes. Gianna Bryant was just 13 years old and lost her life. She showed many characteristics that her father had. She was an outstanding all-around athlete and it is very sad to see her go like that. With her success playing basketball it would have been amazing to see the role she would have held in society as an outstanding female athlete. WNBA players are recognizing what could have been a future teammate and an outstanding player to watch.
The effect this had on not only social media but the active and prior NBA players and coaches was extraordinary. This death comes just one day after Lebron James passed Kobe Bryant on the all-time scoring list.
Bryant tweeted about James passing him on the list and expressed his respect. Lebron was traveling the day of Kobe’s death and showed to be very emotional after getting off of his plane. Coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, Doc Rivers was asked to say something about the death and in his interview, he couldn’t seem to get the words out.
He was visibly breaking down and told media he needed to go tell his team to get ready to play a game. Due to the recent events that have occurred the NBA has decided to postpone the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers game that was supposed to be played during this week.
Editorial: The sports community is crushed and the people who idolized this man are saddened. From all of us in the community including The Pathfinder and LCSC as a whole, we wish nothing but our deepest remorse as no family should have to endure this pain. “Mamba out.”
