Jackson Fuller:
“My true love’s skin is white as cane;
It compares not to my skin of brown;
She sees no difference nor feels disdain;
We care less for whispers from those in town.
Her parents remind her of their shame,
My true love is strong and most courageous;
As we plan for her to take my name
We pity those whose hate is outrageous.
As our wedding day draws near
Our closest friends offer words of grace;
There are still those who whisper and sneer;
We can only offer them a warm embrace.
Our day is finally here and not a guest declined
It seems hate has lost and was left behind.
